1. George Mattison, owner of Lot 52 lived ½ mile south of South Bend, NE. George Mattison befriended the Mainelanders who settled Sec. 4, Elmwood Prec. This was a group from Maine, Mattison gave then work and helped them settle. Perhaps he had ties with them. Perhaps this accounts for the Marks Burial. See burial near Lot 37. Marks was a Mainelander. Later, many of the Mainelanders moved to the Weeping Water area where a Congregational church had already been established.
